Glaucoma Evaluation - Part 1. History Taking and Intraocular Pressure. | OOLS |
Dr. Arjun Gokani, the head of the glaucoma department at KEM hospital, Mumbai, begins by listing the different types of glaucoma. He points out the importance of history taking to cover aspects of all the different causes of glaucoma. We learn in-depth about the different signs and symptoms we need to look out for in glaucoma patients. We understand the need for specifically asking about:
1. Family history (8:53)
2. Drug history (10:16)
3. Allergy history (14:14)
4. Lifestyle history (15:13)
5. Systemic illness (16:44)
6. Ocular history (17:15)
We also learn about normal-tension glaucoma, wherein specific history questions need to be asked. For the second half of the talk, Dr. Gokani talks about Intra-Ocular pressure (IOP). Firstly, we learn about the different factors that can affect IOP, as listed below:
1. Raised episcleral venous pressure (23:40)
2. Pressure on the eye (27:00)
3. Factors that lower IOP (27:36)
After learning about the factors that can affect IOP measurement, we learn in-depth of the different methods for IOP measurements:
1. Indentation Tonometry (30:12)
2. Applanation Tonometry (33:57)
3. Non-contact Tonometry (43:00)
